Our History
David Gaudron (a truck driver for Logan City Council) had a 10 year old nephew with special needs, who badly wanted to ride in a big truck. David wrote a letter to ‘Truckin Life’ asking for help to organise something – he had no idea what he wanted to do.
And the rest, as they say, is history. A working committee of David Gaudron, Robin Hunter, Kevin Prescott, John Moran, and Senior Constable Mark Yabsley was formed to organize the first convoy. At that meeting many years ago Convoy for Kids was born and because of these men’s vision, millions of dollars have been raised for children’s charities.
In 2009, following discussions with some of the present committee and John Moran, the Brisbane event was re-ignited. As a result, Brisbane Convoy Kids returned with a bang in 2010 after a ten-year hiatus. The last eleven convoys have seen over $1 Million being donated to benefit children in South East Queensland.
This year an expected 700 plus trucks will travel the 65 kilometre distance from Pallara on Brisbane’s south side, along the Gateway Motorway to finish on the north side at the Redcliffe Showgrounds for the 2023 Brisbane Convoy for Kids on Saturday 4th November.
We could never have imagined how much the community would embrace the event the way that they have. Our goal is to provide commitments to both sponsors and our selected beneficiaries alike through our yearly convoy.
